Over at Valvetime.net, some lines of code in the Source Filmmaker script files have been found which point to a new Source Engine – Source 2. The line reads:
Line 1387:
”’Return an str with the current engine version.If key doesn’t doesn’t exist, assume ‘Source’, otherwise invalid — assume next-gen ‘Source 2′.”’
Some icons have also be found in SFM that hint toward Source 2 “tools”.
Every Valve game since Counter Strike Source has run using the Source engine. While the engine has had updates, if these hints turn out to be correct, it will be the first time in nearly 8 years that Valve has used a complete new engine.
