Unlike a lot of other games, the PC version of Sleeping Dogs has been announced to be more than just a console port. According to the community manager the game, the PC version is intended to be a “fully optimised” experience.

Part of this promise entails the PC version running at 60 frames per second in 1080p. In addition, the PC version will feature customisable Direct X 11 features including things like ambient occlusion and anti-aliasing. These features will be entirely optional, which is intended to make the game playable on a range of systems. The PC version will come with a day one HD texture pack, allowing people with high end rigs to make the game look even better. On top of this, world density is a customisable feature on PC, allowing players to tweak this element of the game as high or low as their specs can handle.

Pre-ordering the game also unlocks the Triad pack in TF2, giving you access to a variety of new weapons and cosmetic items. In addition, you also get a few Valve themed items of clothing in Sleeping Dogs.

With the recent uproar over the so called ‘Kickstarter Revolution’ the video game industry has seen notable shifts in the landscape of game creation and development, this however is a focus on the inaugural crowd, funded console named OUYA.
(http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console)

The OUYA project has had numerous bouts of controversy since its conception and has received equal amounts of praise and criticism within the gaming industry. Even with regard to long standing arguments such as ‘Consoles vs PCs’ and ‘Timing of Next Gen Consoles’, the projects figures speak for themselves;

Over 41k backers generating more that 5.3 million dollars US in funding (Approx avg of $127 per backer) with a set standard sale price of $99 US/ £63 UK/ €81 EU/ $95 AUS (Not including available console Modkits).

There has been some backlash over the OUYA’s financial figures due to comments made by the projects CEO, Julie Uhrman. Initial comments made by CEO Uhrman on the Ouya project having ‘private investors’ as a source of initial funding made current and potential backers concerned over the validity of the Kickstarter campaign. CEO Uhrman later attempted to correct misconceptions by stating;

”Let me be clear, OUYA is not seeking additional funding outside of Kickstarter. Our priority now is to continue to focus on building a great game console while engaging in our ongoing Kickstarter campaign.”

She would go on to mention that the ‘private investors’ she had previously mentioned were funds provided by those working on or personally related to the project.

Multiple other points of interest that have risen in relation to OUYA include the acquisition of an exclusive game title in ‘Human Element’ (NB; Scheduled Release 2015) and the projects hiring of a software/hardware engineer from Lab126, Amazon’s group behind well known Kindle products. And last but not least are the consoles specs and key features-

Tegra 3 QuadCore Proc. – 1gb RAM – 8gb Int. Flash Storage – Bluetooth 4.0       WiFi 802.11 b/g/n – USB 2.0/Ethernet – HDMI TV Connect Up To 1080p HD                    Android 4.0 – Wireless Controlling w/ Touch Pad  – ‘Hackable’/Modkits

The OUYA project has scheduled a March, 2013 launched date for the console.

There isn’t much to say about Diablo 3 that hasn’t been said since it’s initial ‘release’, a term being used here loosely, in May earlier this year. The most significant comment recently released in concern to the title comes from Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime which opened with;

“Dear Diablo Players,

Now that Diablo III has been out for two months, I would like to take a step back and discuss the launch, the feedback from the community, and talk about what the future holds for the game.”

(For full statement- http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6080663481)

With regard to a game that had a twelve year build up, no definitive way of anticipating user numbers and a creation team from one of the video game industries biggest corporations; there is finally an official statement with admission of failures and mistakes. Despite a detailed and sincere styled message it may be too late for apologies.

This statement from the Blizzard executives arrives in time with Diablo 3′s latest publicity dive which was the death of an 18yr old Taiwanese man who suffered heart complications after playing the game for 40 hours straight. The death is now an addition to the growing list of issues with the title thus far;

Massive play lockouts on launch date

The (infamous) Error 37- Servers are currently busy. Please try again later.

No offline single player mode

Failure of ‘Infinite Endgame’ content

Class action lawsuit by Korean Cyber-cafe owners

General community backbiting over gameplay, graphics, duration, artistic content, character balances and support services.

Diablo 3 may be the case of ‘the bigger they are, the harder they fall’ but it is unsure at this point in time whether or not this train is too far off the tracks to salvage.
